Teen Yoga Ambassador Training

A training for teens – ONLINE & IN PERSON

Introduction

The TYA programme was developed in response to a rise in mental health challenges for young people coupled with an impressive rise in the popularity of yoga.

The course has been developed together with Psychiatrists, Teachers, Medics, Parents, Yoga Therapists and young people and has a heavy focus on practical applications of yoga for optimal mental health. It is endorsed by the College of Medicine and Public Health England.

The Course

The Teen Yoga Ambassadors course is a 3-level programme for young people between the ages of 14 and 21. The objective of the course is to qualify them to share well-being techniques with their peers and is achieved in 3 simple steps.

  1. The resident yoga teacher at the school together with the school tutor choose a likely candidate from a school between the ages of 14 and 21
(it is also possible for a young person, to nominate themselves and pay for the course, please email us for details)
  2. When 12 students are enrolled a weekend course takes place in a local space or online, involving some practical tips to deal with day-to-day problems.
  3. They share this knowledge in their school with their peers

The 3 levels of the training

Each level has a motivational award in the form of a yoga mat, a book, a manual and all have continued online mentor support.

  • 1 x weekend of training: In how to deliver well-being techniques to peers informally or two weeks (20 hours) online during the pandemic
  • 1 x weekend of training: In how to deliver well-being techniques in small groups or two weeks (20 hours) online during the pandemic
  • * 1 x week residential training:  The science and rationale behind certain useful yoga techniques and how to apply them to common issues such as anxiety, low mood, obesity and disengagement.‍

*The residential weekend counts toward a full Yoga Teacher Training and qualifies you to run larger yoga groups of up to 12.

The course, which will also be a self-development course with no more than 12 students,  is funded independently, including the venues which will be donated either by local schools or GPs. We do offer bursary places for each intake.

The course has been developed and verified by a group of young people, psychiatrists, social workers, yoga therapists and educators. It is fully evidence-based and insured and all teachers have enhanced DBS clearance.

Testimonials

Teen (Year 10)

Laid on my mat, listened to your teen yoga video and now feel so relaxed in the sun. Ready to start my day now, thank you.

Hattie (Year 13)

I took part in the 6th form Yoga PE sessions last year and I found them very enjoyable. I became more confident to try new skills in front of people and I even managed to attempt a headstand with support. I found the sessions interesting and calming and loved trying new things in a supportive environment. From the yoga sessions themselves to the music and mindfulness, every part was always a joy to learn about.

Footballer (18-19)

When I relax at the end of a class I feel like I’m on a cloud and I don’t want it to end.

Suki (Year 13)

Each yoga session made me feel relaxed and calm, helping awe to focus on flexibility, accuracy and balance. I was excited for every session I took part in and would recommend them to everyone.

Dan (18)

Yoga makes me feel at peace.

Cameron (Year 13)

Beforehand, I had never done yoga in my life. I wasn’t sure if I’d enjoy it and I wasn’t sure how quickly I could learn. Not only did I love the sessions I took part in but also, I learnt that it’s okay if you get it wrong. Yoga helped me to find a moment of peace in a busy school day day and I’m very thankful for it.

Max (14)

Jess’ classes have helped me to deal with stress in a better way. Stress from exams, school, family and friends, and one that I struggle the most with is stress of the unknown. The main things I’ve learned are how to relax properly, how stress works and how to counter it.

Ben (16)

My back feels loads better after yoga!
