Teaching Yoga and Mindfulness to Teens course, Cortijo Romero, Orgiva, Spain April 2018

Cost: £900.  Teens £550. All profits from this course go to the Teen Yoga Foundation.

This is our flagship course. Students from this course have the opportunity to bond in a retreat style week, not only with each other but also with other young adults.  There are several opportunities to discuss pertinent issues with young people. Morning and evening meditation and asana are optional and daily.   This course is always fully booked. SO please make sure you book early to avoid disappointment.

You get 7 days in a sunny environment, close to the sea, the mountains and with a pool, in a relaxed atmosphere, we run the same course as in the UK but with added benefits of having our young people with us to discuss topics that arise.  Cortijo romero has been offering holistic courses since the 80s and the atmosphere of the venue reflects this gentle, deep and nurturing history. All food is vegetarian (there is a vegan option at an extra price)  You have two days free to explore the area and all vegetarian meals are included.

You may bring your teen with you and there will be a fun and easy schedule for them to follow too, if they are interested – no pressure. There is also a study room, if they would rather study for exams.

There will be morning and evening meditation and yoga classes that are open to all.

The course itself will run 9.30-5pm Monday – Friday, leaving Sunday and Saturday for you to explore.

Obligatory reading:Dharma by Simon Haas  (we can supply) and Brainstorm by Dan Siegel.

Run by Charlotta Martinus, this course is a fully accredited course with mornings of theoretical learning, including Psychology, Neuroscience, Anatomy and Physiology, Applied Chakra theory and Marketing and afternoons are spent experiencing different kinds of classes. This is a highly experiential course. There will be group work outside as well as some therapeutic work, helping you to understand the teaching and learning process more clearly. Moreover, we will look at how best to manage this group using yoga techniques to control behaviour.

Rooms: There are single rooms and twin rooms (£100 single room supplement) – the rooms all have bathrooms and are beautifully appointed.

Flights: We suggest that you fly in to Malaga which is the nearest airport.

Transfer: Cortijo Romero organises transfers from the airport for around £25. each way. Information will be emailed to you and payment will be requested for transfers one month before departure.

Please be sure to book your flight to coincide with the transfer!!!! Try and make sure your arrival in to Malaga coincides with the transport/transfers. The bus leaves Malaga airport at 12.15 and 15.30 on Saturday 31st March. Your return flight should leave after 12 noon and there is just one bus back to Malaga airport. There is always an option to hire a car or take a bus from Malaga, but please check timetables.

Schedule for teens Monday – Friday:

(no planned activities on Saturday or Sunday, all extra activities are at extra cost)

7am – Option to join with meditation

9-9.45am – Breakfast

9.45- 10.30am – Revision, project work, discussion groups, Spanish

10.30 am – Daily excursion for example:

Horse riding, canoeing, beach

1.30pm – lunch

5pm – Yoga practice – taught by Candace

6pm – Down time/yoga class

7.30 – Supper

8.30pm – yoga nidra, meditation  and chanting (optional)

Schedule for students Monday to Friday:

7am – meditation and asana (optional)

10am – Lecture

1.30pm – 2.30pm – Lunch

¿Cómo motivamos a los adolescentes? Su aparente desinterés frecuentemente constituye un obstáculo tan fuerte que parece imposible hacer otra cosa que esperar que pasen la dicha “edad del pavo”. Pero tal vez así les hacemos un flaco favor. La adolescencia es una época tan clave para el desarrollo de la persona que es vital apoyarles en este momento de su vida.

La investigación, principalmente en la India, Estados Unidos y más recientemente Inglaterra, indica que el uso del yoga en las escuelas ayuda mucho al individuo en la época de la adolescencia a controlar su ansiedad, y alcanzar el equilibrio para así desarrollar mejor sus capacidades. Se han visto beneficios con grupos de todo tipo incluido por ejemplo los alumnos con depresión, déficit de atención, la obesidad e importantes mejoras en las funciones ejecutivas en alumnos de toda la gama de habilidades académicas.

Ahora por primera vez en España en el pueblo de Orgiva en las Alpujarras, TeenYoga ofrece un curso único diseñado para preparar personas con experiencia en el yoga para traer el yoga a los centros escolares y comunicar sus valores y beneficios a este grupo tan fascinante: los adolescentes. El curso está acreditado por el Yoga Alliance del Reino Unido.

La profesora del curso, Charlotta Martinus, lleva desde 2004 en la formación en la enseñanza de yoga a los adolescentes, además de sus actividades de investigación con la Universidad de Leeds, y de terapia de yoga con el Servicio Nacional de Salud del Reino Unido. El curso tiene un enfoque diverso que abarca no solamente las posturas del yoga, y los ejercicios de relajación y respiración más apropiados para los adolescentes, sino también aspectos relacionados con la comunicación, y los beneficios neurológicos y fisiológicos de la práctica del yoga para las personas de estas edades.

En el curso contamos no sólo con un ambiente especial de paz en las Alpujarras de Granada, apropiado para la práctica del yoga, sino también con la presencia de un grupo de adolescentes que nos acompañaran para participar como alumnos en las sesiones de práctica y también aportar su perspectiva para prepararnos mejor para el trabajo directo con adolescentes.
